The Trench Warrior - Design by Christophe Verstappen
Below is the designer’s origin words on the inspiration behind the design:
Why this sword?
I created this hybrid sword because I am passionate about European historical bladed weapons—those used on the battlefield by Romans, Vikings, archers, foot soldiers, knights, and many others.
For this sword, I drew inspiration by combining three historical weapons: the Roman glaive, the Vlaamse Goedendag (a steel-piked weapon used in the 13th century by Flemish peasants, designed to strike under the chin and pierce into the upper body), and the warhammer used by Norse warriors in battle. These three influences were combined into a functional modern design.
The name comes from recent global events. Modern conflicts, including trench-based warfare in Ukraine, and reports that bayonets are still occasionally used, reflect that certain historical forms of combat have not entirely disappeared. During the First World War, many soldiers also crafted their own bladed trench weapons, which inspired the name.
Could it be used as a real weapon? It is designed with functional geometry, but is intended primarily for collectible and conceptual appreciation. Let us believe in peace. And remember: it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
The warrior spirit.
